Week of Prayer

Image description: Computer generated drawing of a gold, black, red, and blue butterfly in front of a golden background.

Join us as we intentionally pause to spend time reflecting and seeking God in a week of prayer. Weeks of prayer are always a significant time of peace, individual and collective growth, and spiritual renewal at Cityview.

As always, we look forward to seeing how God moves amongst us and what is revealed to us over the week. If you are comfortable, please share on the whatsapp chat, in an email to Trevor, or during the feedback session after service on Sunday May 5th.

Prayer Guides from past weeks of prayer are freely available on our resource page.

The Seed-to-Sky Garden Club meets in our building and expertly maintains the community garden in our parking lot. The Garden Club welcomes Cityview’s plant enthusiasts and the general public to join them in their program of ongoing learning.

April 3rd topic:  Soil fertility workshopt

Presenter:  Eveline Wolterson, a physical chemist and soil scientist by profession, will be co-hosting with the Pacific Regional Society of Soil Science whom she describes as some of the best in the new generation of soil scientists.

The workshop will be a fun, informal event where we bring soil samples to be tested and talk to our hosts about how to manage our soil productivity. The lower church hall will be set up with tables all around.

It's a "hands on" event so wear your gardening clothes. Bring a soil sample to be tested. The weather forecast predicts no rain this coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday so they will be good days to collect your sample if you haven't done so already. If you don't have a sample to bring, come anyway and join in at a table for the conversation.

What to bring:

  • Soil sample and a second empty plastic container (with lid) as well as a clear, tall narrow glass jar

  • $5 to pay for your soil sample kit.   Exact change will be helpful.

  • a donation to either the draw or refreshment tables

  • a mug for tea

Stations of the Cross Art Exhibit

Image description. Composite image of several art pieces including photography drawing and a graphic novel-style image. White text against a black background reads “Via Crucis. The stations of the cross.”

Via Crucis is latin for “the Way of the Cross.”  It is more common in Catholic traditions as a method of meditating on the Passion of Jesus. Over time, Christians from a variety of traditions have come to appreciate the opportunity to prayerfully pause and reflect on the significance of Jesus’s death and resurrection.

The Artists of Cityview have been studying and creating art interpretations over the past 6 months. We have found the process to be supremely satisfying, and hope that our art helps you reflect more deeply on your own relationship with Jesus Christ.

We warmly invite you to take some time to walk through the art installation. Admission is free. The sanctuary will be open during the following times and there will be someone on hand if you would like spiritual support or prayer.

Thursday Mar 28 from 9am to 6pm.

Friday March 29 from 9am to 6pm (note the Good Friday service will be held at 11am).

Saturday March 30 from 9am to 4pm.

Pi Day (π)

Image description: Photograph of a bowl of red and green apples, a baked apple pie, and a bowl of lemons, limes, and oranges against a wooden table-surface background.

March 14 is Pi Day. Although not part of the standard liturgical calendar, Cityview’s math enthusiasts and bakers alike use this day as an excuse to flex their pie-baking skills and share some love.

All are welcome to join virtually or in person (in Tanya’s kitchen) for the traditional pie bake-along on Saturday, March 9 at 1pm. Our resident pie enthusiasts can walk beginner bakers through a fruit pie recipe. Invite your friends! Let’s have some delicious fun! Some people just go to Tanya’s house and drink tea while she bakes. That is ok too.

Perhaps if we bake enough there can be some pie tasting the following Sunday. (A potentially delicious day to attend Sunday service in person).

Scroll to below the picture for a recipe, ingredients, and supplies list if you need it.

Contact the church office or see the Whatsapp for the virtual meeting link.
