Garden Club News - club meeting

The Seed-to-Sky Garden Club meets in our building and expertly maintains the community garden in our parking lot. The Garden Club welcomes Cityview’s plant enthusiasts to join them in their program of ongoing learning.

The November presentation is “Sylvie's Rooftop Garden."

PRESENTER:

Sylvie's background includes teaching art, working in the floristry business, designing and showing her own garden in the UK, and completing a garden design course.   After coming to Vancouver from the UK, in 2022, Sylvie and her husband moved into a condo that had a rooftop garden - a perfect opportunity to apply her skills to a new challenge. 

PRESENTATION:

Sylvie found some big differences in rooftop gardening.  She will illustrate common and more specialist themes.  Common themes include colour, texture and form in the garden, and how to use repetition and layering (photo above), screening, and planting for different seasons.  She'll also talk about her use of ground cover.


There is a $5 drop in fee for those who are not garden club members to help cover the costs of educational programming.

Please bring:

  • a mug for tea

  • a cushion or soft coveringfor a metal chair

  • a contribution to the draw or to the refreshment table

Rummage/arts and crafts sale

Save the date and start collecting any usable items that you no longer need or want.

Cityview’s once-a-decade (approximately) church and community rummage sale and arts and crafts sale will happen on Saturday November 8th from 2-5pm. If the weather is nice we will set up on the church’s south lawn (on 28th ave). If it is a typical rainy Vancouver November afternoon, then we will set up indoors.

Special General Meeting

Please join us in-person after service on Sunday, November 23 for our 2025 Special General Meeting.

Your SLT will present the proposed budget for 2026 and invites feedback from the congregation. We will also be looking for one new member for the SLT as one of the members’ term is coming to an end. Talk to Trevor or a member of the SLT if you are interested or want to learn more about serving in this way. We will also get an update on transition planning.

Previous minutes from the 2024 meeting, agenda, and proposed budget will be circulated closer to the date.

Week of Prayer - Fall 2025

Join us as we intentionally pause to spend time reflecting and seeking God in a week of prayer. Weeks of prayer are always a significant time of peace, individual and collective growth, and spiritual renewal at Cityview.

Throughout this year, we have been learning about our identity. And the truth is that our identity is rooted in God’s identity. And God’s identity can be seen through His promises. So for the Week of Prayer in the fall this year, our daily devotions will be on the topic of some of the wonderful promises our Good and Loving Father has given us. We will reflect on His goodness and we will marvel at His generous, wondrous love for us!

These verses from Lamentations 3 will echo throughout our week:

22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

Fall garden clean up

Cityview members are invited to help the Seed to Sky Garden Club get the church’s garden beds ready for winter. Work will start at 10am and will end around 1pm. Please come for all or part of the time.

If you have them, please bring your energetic children, gardening gloves, clippers, and weeding tools. There will also be tools on site to use.

The presenter will be Claude Le Doux who is a passionate horticulturist, retired Manager, or the New Westminster Parks Department Horticulture Operations, and Coordinator of Plant a Grow and Grow a Row, New Westminster.

Claude will speak about growing vegetables and fruit in creative ways, with lots of audience participation!

Baptism Service

East Van Youth is back

Cityview’s kids in grade 6-12 participate in the multi-church east Vancouver youth group (East Van Youth) run out of Reality Church.

East Van Youth’s fall kick off will be on September 10th at 7pm at Reality Church.

Life Groups are back!

After our summer break, Life Groups will start meeting again the week of September 8. All are welcome and not all attendees are direct members of the Cityview church community. There is no cost to participate. Life Group gatherings happen online or in person and include socializing, bible study and time to pray for one another.

Tuesdays online at 10:00 am lead by Daphne.

Tuesdays in person in East Vancouver at 7:30 pm lead by Laura.

Wednesdays online at 8:00pm lead by Trevor.

Big Life is back!

Big Life classes will happen on three Sundays each month, and kids will join us in the main service on other weeks.

Sunday Service - Beginnings

On September 7th, Trevor will begin a new sermon series that will walk us through Genesis (the first book of the bible).

“Everyone's story has a beginning. Our identity, who we are and why we are, has a beginning. And so as we continue to unpack our word for the year, Identity, we will be spending the rest of 2025 going back to the beginning. The beginning of all things. And, I believe, by doing that we will understand more fully who we are,  what our purpose is, why we struggle to fulfill that purpose, and perhaps more importantly, who God is.

Sunday Service - Kids in charge
